How Much Is Too Much Information For Pasadena?

When it comes to the Census, everyone’s participation matters in how resources provided by the Government are to be shared. But with only 9 questions on the 2020 Census, is there enough information being gathered to provide assistance to everyone, especially those who need help the most?

For this story, I want to look into the city of Pasadena and its process of conducting the Census and how they reach out to the community, especially the homeless and mentally disabled. I also plan to examine the process of why there are only 9 specific questions on the Census and how those questions may or may not be enough information. According to Census Reporter, almost 22,000 residents are living below the poverty line which is 15.7% of the population in Pasadena but we don’t have a clear understanding of how many people living under the poverty line are homeless.

I’ve had the opportunity to talk to some of the local residents and college students in Pasadena and asked them if they understood the purpose of the Census and if they thought there was enough information being gathered from it. The city is also throwing multiple Census “parties” for the community that I plan to attend and talk to attendees and officials about the process.
